Property tax notice errors impact subset that paid online early

Changes to the tax code caused property tax bills to come out late this year, and in the process, some bills were initially incorrect. Now the Hays County Tax Assessors’ Office is working on issuing refunds to those who paid too much.

Wimberley plans for the Eclipse
Wimberley plans for the Eclipse

Wimberley’s Tourism Department, headed up by Leeann Kirby, has been hard at work planning for the April 8 total eclipse that could bring as many as 50,000 visitors to the city. Kirby, aided by City Liaison, Ted Gartner, has prepared guides for citizens during the eclipse weekend, to make them aware of the disruptions to their normal activities.

Last Saturday, a pickup truck crashed through the front of Durango’s restaurant, sending the wall and front door into the main dining room. Fortunately no one was injured in the crash and the business continues to be open for business.

KAPS Chili Cook Off and Cupcake Wars

The Katherine Anne Porter charter school in Wimberley turned up the heat last week for their annual Chili Cook Off and Cupcake Wars school fundraiser. Students, staff, board members and Chef Ryan Castille from the Wimberley Inn joined in the competition. Judging was conducted by Jay Bachman, co-owner of the Wimberley Cafe and Marco’s Restaurant; Pam Tise, a Longleaf Craft Kitchen + Bar partner and KAPS Board Member; and Jordan Elliot, KAPS School Board President.

Jim Chiles, outgoing Place Four City Council member, has filed an application to run for the position of mayor in the upcoming City of Wimberley General Election May 4. He is hoping to fill the slot left by outgoing Mayor Gina Fulkerson. For Place Two on the City Council, Bo Bowman has put forth his application to replace outgoing Teresa Shell. Robert Clark has applied to fill Place Four. The City began accepting applications January 17 and will continue until the deadline on February 16 at 5 p.m.
