The sky’s the limit at Wimberley Library for 50th anniversary and Grand Opening

The sky’s the limit at Wimberley Library for 50th anniversary and Grand Opening

Kites fly overhead for the 50th anniversary and Grand Opening celebration on September 14 at the Wimberley library. Artist Terry Lee, in collaboration with the Watershed Association, installed kites throughout the new wing from the Watershed Kite Exhibit displayed previously in the downtown Austin and San Marcos libraries. On display through April, the exhibit features cranes, owls and raptors by fine artist Pete Shurgy, bird kites by Joel K. Scholtz of Kingsland and five other artists.

“Kites are a perfect vehicle for education,” Terry Lee told library workers during a tour last week of the exhibit. “Building a well-flying kite takes knowledge about science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” she said “which represents the spiritual, emotional, physical and mental balance in different bodies which provides a good metaphor for developing children.” The exhibit also features the “Sacred Springs of Texas” which alerts Texans about aquifer water shortages occurring in the Hill Country because of over-development and water mismanagement.

The exhibit is one more reason to celebrate a half century of Wimberley literacy and the library’s new wing. The commemoration takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the library, 400 FM2325. Learn more at wimberleylibrary.org.
