Based on weather forecasts from the National Weather Service, the Wimberley Independent School District, the Katherine Anne Porter School and the Blanco River Academy closed schools on Tuesday. Both WISD and Blanco River Academy anticipated a delayed start for classes on Wednesday, January 17.

AARP offers free income tax return preparation

Free income tax return preparation begins February 2 at the Wimberley Community Center. Offered by the American Association of Retired Persons Foundation, the TaxAide program is available to anyone who wishes assistance. There are no income or age limitations and AARP membership is not required. Normally held at the Wimberley Village Library, TaxAide has been moved to the Community Center at 14608 RR 12 because of library renovations.

Aqua Texas sues groundwater district over pumping fine

The National Weather Service website stated that as of January 4, 24% of the Hill Country is in what is considered extreme drought conditions, which is the second to the worst drought designation category. Additionally, 20% of the Hill Country is in severe drought, which is a level below extreme. Aquifer levels reached the lowest point since the 1950s. Issues around groundwater usage and the limitations thereof have gotten contentious.

Candidates for the 2024 City of Wimberley General Election may file an application for a place on the ballot starting Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The deadline to file is Friday, February 16, 2024 at 5 p.m. Election Day is Saturday, May 4.
