A Year of Extremes
Last year was a rough one for the central Texas landscape. It was a year of extremes. Between the harsh ice storm in early February 2023 and the extreme drought over the summer, Wimberley residents have experienced some dramatic changes to the local landscape that remain challenging. Two summers of brutal heat and drought have killed plants and have left local watering holes, rivers and lakes with notably low water supplies going into 2024.

City hosts Valentine’s Day Gala
Wimberley’s Parks and Recreation department is hosting a Valentine’s Day gala at the Community Center from 7 to 10 p.m. on February 14. Sweethearts aged 18 and up can enjoy live music by the band, “Five O’Clock Somewhere,” a catered dinner by Railroad Bar-B-Que and all the magic possible from an evening designed to celebrate love.

Registration for Summer Camps begins Feb. 1
On February 1, parents will be able to enroll their children for four of Camp CommUnity’s summer camps. The first camp, called “Blueprint for Fun,” which focuses on architecture, construction and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, which is known by the acronym STEAM, meets the week of June 24 through 28.

WimDems reschedule candidate forum
The Wimberley Democrats event to meet Hays County Democrats running for office in the March 2024 Democratic primary elections has been rescheduled to Sunday, February 4, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Oldham- Cumming VFW Post #6441, 401 Jacobs Well Road. A candidate meet and greet will take place from 2:30 to 3 p.m. for uncontested candidates followed by a moderated program from 3 to 5:30 p.m. for races with multiple candidates. The meeting was unexpectedly shut down last Sunday after a problem surfaced at the VFW facility. Man sentenced to 60 years for intent to distribute Fentanyl
Tony Robert Barrera III, 44, of Austin, was sentenced to 60 years in prison on January 18 for possession of fentanyl with the intent to deliver. He was also charged with a 50 year sentence for possession of a firearm.
