The year 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam war. Veterans will mark the anniversary with a National Vietnam Veterans Parade along the famed Waikiki beach in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. The Texan Band of Wimberley High School has been selected to represent the state of Texas in the parade.

School threats on social media lead to arrest

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that a juvenile was arrested in connection to a generic threat on Oct. 16, that referenced school violence was imminent and which was sent out via social media applications.

Students win Moreman Memorial Scholarships

Robert Moreman worked behind the scenes to support the community he called home, volunteering with several local nonprofit organizations during the 10 years he lived in Wimberley. In his honor, the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance created a scholarship in 2021 to provide opportunities for budding artists and tradespeople. Every year, the Robert Moreman Memorial Scholarship is awarded to deserving students who are passionate about their creative endeavors.

WIC announces Harvest Moon Dance and mural

The Harvest Moon Dance, hosted by the Wimberley Institute of Cultures, will take place at the historic Fischer Dance Hall on Sunday, October 29 in Fischer, Texas. The dance will feature music by Erik Hokkanen & Friends, a catered dinner by Old 300 BBQ from Blanco, and a silent auction. Doors open at 6 p.m. Fischer Dance Hall is located at 701 Fischer Store Road, about 18 minutes from Wimberley via FM 32. Tickets are $60 and proceeds benefit the Wimberley Valley Museum. Tickets and further information is available at wimwic.org.
