Earlier this month, WIC held an Artist Reception for Theresa Vincent whose proposal for a mural on the museum grounds was accepted. In conjunction with Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance, Vincent’s design was selected to portray Wimberley’s landscape and history. Work will begin early in November.
WIC also accepted KWVH’s Nonprofit of the Month Award for October. Alan Marburger and Debra Billups accepted the award during the Wake Up Club show with John Odell & Carrol Wilson.
WIC began its preservation of Wimberley culture by acquiring the town’s first stone house built in 1857 by William C. Winters. The house was later sold to Pleasant Wimberley, who became the town’s namesake in 1880 when the post office was established. In 2022, the building, now referred to as the Winters-Wimberley House, was listed on the National Registry of Historical Places.
In 2019 the Wint ers- Wimber l e y House became the official Wimberley Valley Museum.
The Harvest Moon Dance helps to fund the ongoing preservation of the Museum as well as providing support for educational events.
