Celebrating the onset of fall, cooler weather

Fall is on our doorstep: temperatures are starting to come down and we can enjoy outdoor activities without breaking a sweat.

Fall is on our doorstep: temperatures are starting to come down and we can enjoy outdoor activities without breaking a sweat.

Recent rain has added some greenery to our parched landscape — and people are seeing pink as well as white rain lilies blossoming. As nature’s color scheme changes to autumnal hues, the wonderful additional decorations by our local businesses and other entities around town is bringing another level of beautification to our community. KWB is playing its part with the addition of the pumpkins and fall foliage to the bridge near the Square and Welcome Signs.

You can also add colorful, inexpensive decor to your home and yard. Create a wreath from what you can find around your yard, put out some pumpkins, replace hanging baskets with mums. If you have been following us, you know you can use air conditioner unit runoff or save dishwater to water small amounts of plants around your home.

It is also the time of year to stomp some wildflower seeds. Keep Wimberley Beautiful is working with local schools and homeschoolers to provide seeds. If interested, email keepwimberleybeautiful@ gmail.com and supplies will be provided.

The Shred It and Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 200 Stillwater. It is a free event. You can drive through and drop off your documents for shredding — and your medications for safe and confidential disposal with the Precinct 3 Constables. Scouts will be onsite to help offload, and donations to their Scholarship Fund are welcome.
