Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland
Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland
A glittering world of trees, Christmas music, decor and festive treats awaited merrymakers visiting the Winter Wonderland at the Community Center last weekend. A Chamber of Commerce annual event co-chaired by Jerri Roberts and Daina Slover, the two-day affair paired vendors with shoppers anticipating the upcoming holidays. As the Hill Country Band filled the room with lush melodies, Santa visited with children and buyers bid on holiday-themed items created by chamber members. Visitors voted on their favorite items. The winner of the Best Full-Sized Tree went to the Wimberley Chamber of Commerce; Best Wreath was won by Texas Regional Bank; and Best Centerpiece was awarded to Karen Poe. Lloyd Bishop of the Square Inn provided buggy rides, courtesy of Clydesdale Mickey, in a wintery white carriage perfect for ushering in the holiday spirit. 11/23/2023 12:00 AM

Lege gets to work in fourth special session
The Texas Legislature, conceived as a part-time body to meet every other year for 140 days, is now in its record fifth session (counting the regular session). When the impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is included, legislators have been in Austin pretty much the entire year, as the Texas Tribune noted. While legislators are paid just $7,200 a year in salary, per diem payments – meant to cover their expenses while in Austin – have mounted. If the fourth special session goes a full 30 days, taxpayers will have spent $4.8 million keeping lawmakers in Austin. 11/16/2023 12:00 AM
