Boy Scouts of Wimberley Troop 127 took part in honoring those soldiers and sailors who gave the ultimate sacrifice. On Saturday morning, the troops gathered at the Wimberley Cemetery. Memorial Day used to be known as Decoration Day, which originated following the Civil War. It officially became a federal holiday in 1971 establishing the last Monday in May to commemorate the men and women who died while in the military service, according to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
