The Wimberley Adoption Group and Rescue had plenty of things to celebrate at their 2023 gala. Not only did their enthusiasts come out in strong support of their mission to rescue and find homes for dispossessed dogs and puppies, but they also celebrated their 2,000th adoption. The Palmer family was the lucky recipient of “Corndog,” who had the distinction of being the milestone adoption.

Wimberley High School seniors Josh Bober and Jacob Mantsh have been named Commended Students in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that a juvenile was arrested in connection to a generic threat on Oct. 16, that referenced school violence was imminent and which was sent out via social media applications.

October proclaimed Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Robert Moreman worked behind the scenes to support the community he called home, volunteering with several local nonprofit organizations during the 10 years he lived in Wimberley. In his honor, the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance created a scholarship in 2021 to provide opportunities for budding artists and tradespeople. Every year, the Robert Moreman Memorial Scholarship is awarded to deserving students who are passionate about their creative endeavors.

The Gold Dust boutique in Wimberley’s Quarter Shops received Keep Wimberley Beautiful’s community award for its artistic and well-maintained exterior plantings. While handing over the traveling award, President Lin Weber, KWB’s President said, “We appreciate what you do for Wimberley.”

The Harvest Moon Dance, hosted by the Wimberley Institute of Cultures, will take place at the historic Fischer Dance Hall on Sunday, October 29 in Fischer, Texas. The dance will feature music by Erik Hokkanen & Friends, a catered dinner by Old 300 BBQ from Blanco, and a silent auction. Doors open at 6 p.m. Fischer Dance Hall is located at 701 Fischer Store Road, about 18 minutes from Wimberley via FM 32. Tickets are $60 and proceeds benefit the Wimberley Valley Museum. The Wimberley Knights of Columbus Council 9151 celebrated their 20th Anniversary Hunters Night Out on Saturday, Oct. 21 by awarding $100,000 to local charities and organizations.

Early voting began this week in Hays County in anticipation of the Nov. 7 election, according to Hays County Elections Administrator Jennifer Doinoff.
