The Wimberley girls’ soccer team finished the season with a 4-1 loss to Calallen in the UIL Region IV Semifinals. This was the second year in a row that Calallen knocked Wimberley out of the playoffs at the regional tournament.
After an emotional series against Canyon Lake, the Wimberley Texans baseball team needed to bounce back against the Bandera Bulldogs in order to stay in the playoff race in the competitive District 28.
With their loss to Canyon Lake last Tuesday, the Wimberley softball team needed to win their two games against Bandera and Davenport to avoid a tiebreaker scenario.
The Wimberley Texans softball team was able to round out the first round of district play this week including taking an important 14-3 win over the Davenport Wolves on Tuesday.
“It was probably the most exciting game I’ve ever been a part of in the six years I’ve been in Wimberley,” Wimberley Girls’ Soccer Coach Brinton Nute said.
It is hard to win a district championship. It’s even harder to win two. But Wimberley took that to an entirely new level when they crowned two back-to-back district champion golfers last weekend.
A double-double is typically a basketball term, but it works well to explain the Wimberley Texan tennis team, whose doubles teams doubled up on district championships last week.
The Battle of the Backbone ended in a split series as rivals Wimberley and Canyon Lake clashed to add another chapter in their short history with the Hawks winning Game 1 at 11-10 and the Texans taking Game 2 at 4-3.
It can be hard to compete when your entire team isn’t available to take the field. That didn’t stop the Wimberley girls’ track team from winning the home track meet the Texan Relays last week.
The Texas Relays are the second largest track meet in the United States and draw some of the best competition in the nation. While it is a collegiate competition at its heart, the top Texas high school athletes also compete with a stringent list of qualifying times required to enter. While it may not be the state championships, it isn’t too far off, and in some categories it can be even more difficult.
