The Wimberley Youth Soccer Club qualified two teams for the Capital Area Youth Soccer Associations Champions Tournament, qualifying for the South Texas Youth Soccer Association’s Regional Playoffs on Dec. 3 and 4 in Schertz.

The temperature plummeted to 39 degrees on Saturday, Nov. 19, in Temple when the Wimberley Texans stepped onto the pitch to square up against the Wells Branch Magic in a U11 Division 3 soccer game. Wimberley Youth Soccer Club — for the first time in its short, 6-year history — qualified two teams who both finished atop their respective divisions. The U11 Texans, with coaches Grayson Moore and Taylor Treadwell, had only one point scored against their team all season and finished undefeated. The U12 Texans, with coaches Rene Tenorio and David Sauceda, had likewise finished undefeated in their season.

The U11 Texans won that first match against Wells Branch 2-0, dropped their second game against the North Austin Yetis 0-1 and won their third match against Georgetown 4-0 in order to make it to the semi-finals. In the semis, the Texans had their revenge 3-0 against the North Austin Yetis in order to make it to the championship game. The U11 Texans lost a hard-fought battle against the North Austin Crocs 3-4 in the Championship game, finishing in second place in the Capital Area Youth Soccer Associations Championship Tournament. They also qualified in representing not only Wimberley Youth Soccer Club, Wimberley Youth Sports Association and the city of Wimberley but also representing the entire Capital Area Youth Soccer Association in the South Texas Youth Soccer Association Playoffs in Schertz.

The U12 Texans have a strong mix of boys and girls on their team, playing in the Boys Division-3 circuit with the Capital Area Youth Soccer Association. The Texans entered the Champs Tournament undefeated posting a season record of 6-0-1. In the Champs Tournament, the U12 Texans posted a record of 1-1-1 finishing in third place — also earning themselves a trip to the South Texas Youth Soccer Association Fall Playoffs in Schertz.
