The Wimberley High School volleyball team is on a roll, maintaining a ninegame winning streak after a strong tournament showing late last month.

While the Hays County Showdown between San Marcos High School and Hays High School might soak up the headlines, Hays County’s other rivalry can match the intensity and fierceness as of its counterpart.

Texan football offensive coordinator Dane Saucier received the first-ever Texas High School Coaches’ Association football regional assistant coach of the year in January. The award recognizes coaches for their exemplary achievements and contributions to their teams throughout the 2022 season. The award was sweeter as Saucier shared that award with long-time friend and Texan head coach Doug Warren who received the THSCA head coach award.

The Wimberley High School golf team finished fourth in Conference 4A at the State Golf Tournament held at The Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.

Last month, Wimberley ISD Girls Athletic Coordinator Lacey Adkisson Lambert was inducted into the Tarleton State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Two years ago, Emily Thames stood at the end of the runway staring toward a long jump pit at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin. She needed to pop a solid jump attempt to medal in the event when coach Caleb Hall whispered, “I know she has an 18 foot jump in her. If she hits it, she might take the whole thing.”

Wimberley High School’s Texan tennis made their way to San Antonio earlier this month to compete in their final tournament of the season at the University Interscholastic League’s 4A state championships.

The Wimberley High School baseball team (14-16-1 overall, 6-9 district) headed into their first round playoff game facing former district foe Geronimo Navarro High School (22-7, 8-2) while trying to put a difficult stretch of games behind them.

Wimberley High School’s Coach Stephen Wisdom and his Texan baseball team went into last week needing a win versus Boerne High School or a Fredericksburg High School loss in either of their games against Davenport High School.

The long spring season for track comes to a close next Thursday, May 11 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin.
