The Texans Make the Playoffs

Jack Dwyer Sports Writer

On Tuesday The Texans went on the road to Davenport (26-8) to take on the Wolves to play in their last district match and game of the regular season. Wimberley came into this game on a 3-game winning streak but couldn’t continue the momentum as they came up short to the Wolves, losing 76-65.

In the first quarter, the Texans went down early as Davenport came out hot, putting up 20 points and leading the Texans by eight by the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, both teams put on an offensive show with Wimberley winning the quarter by 1 point at 1918, holding Davenport to a seven point lead going into the half, trailing 38-31.

The third quarter proved to be the highest scoring quarter as both teams finished with over 20 points, with Davenport winning the quarter 24-22, going up nine points as the Texans did not let the game get away from them, staying within striking distance going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, Wimberley held the Wolves to their lowest scoring quarter but was unable to take advantage, falling short and losing 76--65. After the first quarter, both teams played a dead-even game but after the Texan’s slow first quarter, they were unable to find themselves going on a big enough run to get back into the game.

Even with this last loss, Wimberley’s late season push and 18-14 record was able to get them the 3rd place spot in district and advance them to the playoffs, as both Bandera and Canyon Lake came up one game short of the Texans. They did not have to compete in a 3-way tie round robin for third and fourth.

The Wimberley Texans will play their first playoff game on Tuesday at 6:30 against the Young Men’s Leadership Academy (14-15) in Wimberley.
