Lady Texan softball

Wimberley’s Lady Texans softball team participated in the Ingleside Tournament on Friday and Saturday where they achieved a perfect 4-0. The Texans largest win was two runs as they won two games by two, and two games by a single run.

In the first game, the Lady Texans (14-6) came away with the victory against the Killeen Chaparral Bobcats (3--11) with a final score of 4-2. The Texans got on the scoreboard first with an early two runs. The Bobcats, however, were able to respond, tying up the game in the top of the third. But after the Texans tacked on two more runs in the fourth, they were able to hold off the Bobcats and take the game 4-2.

In the second game, the Texans won a low scoring contest against the La Joya Palmview Lobos (11-6), winning 2-1. The Texans scored their only two runs in the first inning and then went scoreless the rest of the game, allowing the Lobos just one run in the second inning and shutting them out for the rest of the game.

In their third game of the tournament, the Texans took on the Spring Hill Panthers (2-18) and continued to stay perfect for the tournament as they won 9-8. The Texans found themselves down 2-1 going into the third inning until they unloaded six runs in the inning to go up 7-2. The Panthers however, matched the Texans with six runs of their own to reclaim the lead at 8-7 until the Texans finished the game off by adding two more runs in the final inning to win the game 9-8.

The Texans found themselves up against the La Vernia Bears (109-1) in the last game of the tournament which resulted in another Lady Texans win with a final score of 5-3. The Texans gave up three runs in the first inning but then held the Bears scoreless for the rest of the game. The three runs were unfortunately not enough for La Vernia as in the final inning with the game tied 3-3 the Texans scored two more runs in the top of the sixth.

Wimberley returns home this Tuesday before press time in a game against Marion before a Friday home game against La Vernia, in a rematch from last Saturday’s game.
