Last week marked a solemn moment as police officers, family, friends and guests filled the rotunda of the Hays County Government Center for the annual Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Ceremony on May 10. The Texas Fraternal Order of Police, Hill Country Lodge #23 hosted the memorial cer emony during National Police Week, which is observed from May 9-15.

Civic Club donates $40,000 in grants and scholarships

The Wimberley Community Civic Club awarded 23 grants to area nonprofits on May 13 at their regular meeting at Messina Inn. In addition to the community grants, it was announced that six students were selected to receive scholarships to pursue higher education goals. The successes of the Home Tour and Spring Events allowed the organization to fund $27,500 in grants and an additional $12,500 in scholarships.

How do you go about selecting a candidate? For me, a resident of Western Hays County, there are several different qualifications I review when deciding who to vote for. One of the main items I evaluate is experience. I’ve found that elected official experience is extremely helpful in working through the governmental process. It’s difficult for a freshman elected official to accomplish much their first year as they are often busy learning the players, the system, the law and how it all works.

WHS, KAPS get top ratings at Concert, Sight Reading contest.

The Wimberley High School Band received a Superior rating from all three stage judges as well as the three sight reading judges in the Region 18 UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest on April 13. Along with the division 1 ratings from the UIL Marching contest earlier in the year, all UIL judges the Texans performed in front of this year gave them a superior rating.
