Many people, especially newcomers to Texas, do not realize that many of our favorite wildflowers that bloom in the spring, must be planted in the fall. That is true for Texas’ state flower, the Bluebonnet. (By the way, I just learned that the bluebonnet had a lot of competition for this honor. It seems that it had to win out over such hot competition as the open cotton boll and the blossom of the prickly pear cactus. Both of these flowers are beautiful, but would you really want them to be our state flower over the bluebonnet?)

On the afternoon of Friday, February 11, PEC member Nita Leinneweber was enjoying a lunch at a restaurant in Kingsland with her husband and mother. The family, from Wimberley, had been running errands in Sunrise Beach and decided to stop at the restaurant for a quick bite to eat. Shortly after sitting down, Leinneweber began choking on a piece of food and ran to the restroom. Her husband and mother quickly followed. What transpired next was a combination of people and circumstance that she credits for her life today.

The Wimberley boys’ golf team took top honors at the home tournament at Quicksand Golf Course, and Wimberley’s Jaxon Donaldson took first place overall with a two-under 70. The girls’ golf team placed second with the team’s top scorer Hallie Adare placing second overall with a score of 80.
