The annual Fourth of July parade in Wimberley, also known as the Best Little Parade in Texas, is back in full form this Monday for the celebration of America’s birth.

Marc Steiner was recognized by the Wimberley Independent School District Board of Trustees last week for being named a No Kid Hungry Texas Hunger Hero Hall of Famer. No Kid Hungry Texas recognized five Hunger Heroes from across the state as individuals who have gone above and beyond to ensure kids have access to healthy meals. Marc, the cafeteria manager at Danforth Junior High, didn’t let a year rife with staffing shortage, supply chain disruptions and other challenges get in the way of performing his duties at DJH. Even with just one staff member on crew, he prepared and served meals to the high volume of students at the junior high school.

Diane Lavonia Williams of Driftwood, Texas died on Friday, June 17, 2022. Governor Abbott submitted a call to the Texas Education Agency to make schools safer after 19 children and two teachers were killed at Robb Elementary in Uvalde. In this call, he requested that school districts a) identify actions to make the campuses more secure prior to the new school year; b) to conduct weekly inspections of exterior doors to verify they are secure during school hours; and c) develop strategies to encourage school districts to increase the presence of trained law enforcement officers and school marshals on campuses.

James Robert “Rob” Stagner, 77, of Wimberley, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13th, 2022 after a long battle with post-polio syndrome.

Evelyn Neve, widow of Grammy winner Rupert Neve, died on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Born Oct. 5,1929, in Murree, India, she is survived by her 5 children, Mary, David (Liz), John (Petra), Stephen (Sue), and Ann (Dave). She had 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Arthur Rupert Neve.

Robert Peter Pierce, PhD, often referred to as “Dr. Bob,” was born on June 25, 1944 in Arlington County, Virginia. He passed away on June 19, 2022. Services have not been planned as of the time of publication. See next week’s Wimberley View for more information.

A near-lifetime of collecting Texas-related books and pamphlets has been capped with the April 23 dedication of the Mike Cox Texas Collection at the San Marcos Public Library.
