Defending Team Tennis state champion Wimberley Texans finished off a fantastic season at the Region 4 finals last week. They fell short against a talented district foe Boerne in the regional championship final held at the Anna Marie Tennis Center in San Antonio.

The Woodcreek Men’s Golf Association (WMGA) is proud to announce the Club and Senior Championship tournament at the Double J Ranch Golf Club (formally Quicksand Golf Course). The event, which has taken place every year since 1975, will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 8:00 AM and Sunday, 13th at 11:30 AM. This two-day tournament is the highlight of the golf season for Wimberley area golf players. The Club and Senior Champions are announced at the end of the two days. The Club Champion must play from the blue tees and the Senior Champion from the white tees. The Senior Champion must be at least 70 years of age. An Award Recognition dinner will be held at 5:30 PM on Sunday.

Lady Texan volleyball continued to make statements last week with signature wins. Coach Stephanie Barthels and her team traveled to Cuero Tuesday for a non-district match against a potential first round playoff opponent. The Lady Gobblers (2214, 9-2 in district) sit second in their district behind the No. 4 stateranked La Vernia Lady Bears.

In a battle for position atop district standings, the Wimberley Texans hosted Geronimo Navarro’s Panthers Friday night at Texan Stadium. The game historically determines the district championship and brings together all things good about Friday Night Lights - hard-hitting defenses, explosive plays on offense, and intense struggles to impose a team’s will on its opponent. This game was no exception.

WVACA bronze boot unveiled

Wimberley’s reputation as an arts community got a big boost with the unveiling of a magnificent bronze sculpture in the heart of the new Oak Park & Welcome Center just off Wimberley Square. The fourfoot high bronze boot, which is called “Hill Country Soul,” is a gift to the city of Wimberley from the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance in appreciation of the town’s continuing support for the arts and culture in the Wimberley Valley. Bronze artists Michael W. Hall and Paul Malachi, both of Michael Hall Foundry in Driftwood TX, created and named “Hill Country Soul.” Michael Hall designed and created the boot mold; Paul Malachi carved the boot’s intricate surface design.

His understanding of how our City government should work is remarkable. Since becoming a Council member, the Brookmeadow overlay and Special Exemption for senior and disabled residents examples of Chrys’s work. He continues to put information on social media in a clear and helpful manner so that Woodcreek residents can be informed.
