Riffs, Roams and Raves:
The Wimberley City Council has proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month, following its meeting last week.
This past weekend in San Marcos, a wildfire off of Hilliard Road burned an area of approximately 50 acres. There were no structural losses or loss of life reported, but the wildfire is just one indication of an environment under stress by weeks of excessive heat.
The annual Independence Day Parade closed down RR 12 last week, taking over the main thoroughfare for the morning of July 4.
Mary Jo and John Saunders were the lucky winners of the “Storyteller’s Quilt” created by Cindy Stadler and donated to the Friends of the Wimberley Village Library. The quilt raffle was one of many efforts to raise money for the renovation of the library’s existing building. The Friends organization assists the library by raising funds and cultivating volunteers.

“Every pool has a dynamic,” said Williams, who told me this was her second season as a guard for Austin City pools. “Deep Eddy’s dynamic is friendly and very welcoming. Even if people are swimming laps, they tend to be easygoing. No food or drinks, except water, are allowed in the pool area so the vibe is peaceful as people enjoy the water and stretch out on their towels between swims.”
On Father’s Day, the Friends of the Wimberley Village Library hosted their first minigolf fundraising event. The inside of the library was transformed into 19 whimsical putting greens. Generous businesses and patrons sponsored holes which raised funds for the renovation of the existing library.
