WHS Academic competitors win sweepstakes at meet
Members of the UIL Academic Team competed at a meet hosted by Medina Valley HS on January 8th and won 1st Place Sweepstakes. The Texans finished first in four team events and had seven individual event winners. A full list of WHS’s results follows:

Volunteers needed for count of homeless people
Volunteers are currently needed to assist with collecting data for the annual point-in-time (PIT) count regarding the homeless population in Hays County. The count is set to take place on Jan. 27 at the San Marcos Public Library.

Feral Hog Management to include bounty program in Hays County
Hays County will be continuing countywide feral hog management efforts in 2022 after receiving a $7,500 grant from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Wildlife Services. The Hays County program will include a five-dollar bounty on feral hogs, one workshop, one webinar, a countywide survey and damage assessment and the continuation of a volunteer-led trapping effort.

Dozens of school districts close due to COVID-19 outbreaks
Several dozen school districts across the state were forced to close last week due to the omicron variant of COVID-19 sending home students, staff and teachers. Most school districts planned to reopen on Tuesday following the MLK holiday.

RV park development withdrawn following P&Z denial
The Wimberley Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the city council deny a potential planned development district that would allow for a 31-site RV and tiny home park on Ranch Road 12 across the street from Plaza Del Sol. While the proposal was withdrawn from consideration following the denial, it could come back for consideration at a later date.
