Laura Calcote, the Wimberley City Secretary, graduated from the 2021 Texas Women’s Leadership Institute in December. She was one of 20 women executives who were chosen to participate in the program, which prepares and inspires women to become city managers in Texas.

The Hays County Women’s Political Caucus (HCWPC) is partnering up with the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) to offer campaign training for women in Hays County who are interested in running for office.

Pedernales Electric Cooperative Board of Directors approved unanimously reducing the amount of money paid back to solar power participants Dec. 17 to ensure a contribution of utility payments considered “fair for all members,” officials said.

The 12 Kings Car Club, which hosts the Coffee and Cars classic car show at Blanco Brew on the first Sunday of every month, donated $575 to Barnabas Connection. The club also made a donation to the Hays Caldwell Women’s Center. The donations came from merchandise sales and other funds collected during the monthly car show. Central Texas Theatre Academy celebrated their first anniversary over the weekend. The celebration included a bounce house, face painting station, games and multiple of children’s favorite princesses and superheroes. The Lower Colorado River Authority is offering grants of up to $50,000 for community projects throughout LCRA’s wholesale power, water and transmission service territory.

More than 20 new state laws went into effect as Texans rang in the New Year, with another half-dozen to go on the books on Jan. 18, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Those laws include a ban on transgender athletes competing on sports teams that reflect their gender identity, and penalties for illegally restraining dogs.
