The Hays County Commissioners Court approved early voting times and locations for the upcoming November election.

The aquifer levels across the county and in Wimberley have now reached historic lows causing regulatory agencies to start making calls for more drastic conservation measures.

In partnership with the Austin Central Library, the Wimberley Valley Watershed Association has created a poster exhibit highlighting eight great Texas springs. The exhibit, located on the 6th floor gallery of the Austin Central Library, features posters illustrating the beauty, significance and challenges for each spring. The poster exhibit deepens the discussion of the springs initiated by the Sacred Springs Kite Exhibition with posters focused on each of the eight featured Sacred Springs: San Solomon, Comanche, the Blue Hole, Comal, San Marcos, Barton, Krause, and Jacob’s Well Springs. The poster series, on display now through the end of August 2022, compliments the art kites of the Sacred Springs Kite Exhibition and serves to further educate and inspire visitors.

Mary Jean Peterson Earls has been selected as the 2022-2023 President of the Hays County League of Women Voters. Earls, who was born and grew up in San Marcos, says she is “humbled” and feels “honored” by the opportunity to lead one of the most respected organizations in the State of Texas.

Local students recently took part in the Indigenous Cultures Institute’s 12th Indigenous Arts Summer Encounter where they participated in daily activities focused on the history, culture, arts and traditions of the indigenous people of this area.

Of the 78 lodging operations within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the city of Wimberley, four are a part of the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association’s group listing partnership that offers promotion and industry specific assistance to rental facilities. Now, all of the lodging operators will be a part of the program after the city of Wimberley used around $10,000 of Hotel Occupancy Tax funds to join.
