Wimberley hires new City Administrator

The city of Wimberley has hired a new City Administrator.

The city of Wimberley has hired a new City Administrator.

Tim Patek, the current City Manager for Gonzales, will start in his new position in Wimberley on October 17.

“I want to be able to engage and communicate with the community that includes the mayor, council, residents, organizations, first responders, everybody,” Patek said. “I am hoping to build on the services we are offering and hopefully we can do that in a more efficient way to do that for the betterment of the city… I’d love to continue improving the quality of life that already exists in Wimberley, and I’m really excited about this opportunity.”

Patek has worked in city government in the state of Texas for 30 years. He worked for the city of Gonzales since 2012 starting out as the Parks Director before being promoted to Public Works Director. Eventually, he was hired in 2018 as City Manager.

Before moving to the city of Gonzales, Patek was the Parks Director for the cities of Seguin, Portland and El Campo. He is a Certified Public Manager and has a bachelor degree in Recreational Administration from Texas State University. He was raised in Seguin.

“I think he has very hands-on, applicable experience, and in the interview process, which was very thorough, we felt like he was a very good fit for Wimberley,” Mayor Gina Fulkerson said. “We had several finalists that were qualified, but we felt he was the best fit in experience, demeanor and knowledge. He is very approachable… To be in this role in a city for as long as he has speaks very well for him.”

Patek will take over for Mike Boese, whose last day with the city is September 30.

Much like Wimberley city officials were sad that Boese is leaving, Gonzales officials spoke highly of Patek.

“This guy has done a phenomenal job for the city of Gonzales and I hate to see him go. It just breaks my heart,” Gonzales Councilmember Bobby O’Neal said, according to the Gonzales Inquirer.

City officials said that Wimberley had more than 20 applicants for the position.
