Flooding prompts disaster declaration
Heavy rains through Texas last week caused flooding, particularly in the Dallas area, prompting Gov. Greg Abbott to issue a disaster declaration for 23 affected counties. Texans who were affected by the rain, which dumped more than 10 inches in Dallas, are encouraged to file insurance claims with their providers and to complete the voluntary Self Reporting Damage Survey issued by the Texas Department of Emergency Management by visiting damage.tdem. texas.gov. The survey helps the state identify damage across Texas to gain an understanding of what areas were affected during the recent severe weather.

Texas Press Association awards are well deserved
Two articles in your latest edition should not be passed over lightly: 1. Congratulations to View Editor Dalton Sweat and other staffers for winning several statewide journalism awards including first place in General Excellence from the Texas Press Association. That is an amazing accomplishment and we are so proud of our weekly newspaper in Wimberley.

Uvalde Leader-News shows strength, compassion and need for community newspapers
The Texas Press Association held its annual conference this weekend in San Marcos. One of the presentations at the seminar was by Craig Garnett, publisher of the Uvalde Leader-News. He has been the publisher in Uvalde for decades. Recently facing the decision to retire, he was unable to do so, because of how much he cares about the community he covers. He couldn’t leave his town in a time of such need.

Walking billboards promote pedestrian safety
If you happen to visit a high-traffic area in one of the state’s larger cities, you might come across some folks wearing sandwich boards, such as one sees during tax season or mattress sales. The Texas Department of Transportation has adopted this marketing device to promote its “Be Safe. Drive Smart” pedestrian safety campaign this month.

Concerned about Horseshoe Ridge RV
I feel like the community concern regarding the Horseshoe Ridge RV Park planned for the west side of RR 12 roughly between the intersections of RR 12 with Old Oaks Ranch Rd. and Gold’s Rd has been summarily dismissed. How can there be so little coverage of a project expected to be as densely populated (201 RV tenants on 30 acres) as this is to be?
