Wimberley Youth Soccer Club Texans win big at regionals

The Wimberley Youth Soccer Club had two teams representing WYSC: the Wimberley Youth Sports Association and the Capitol Area Youth Soccer Association in the 2022 South Texas Youth Soccer Association’s Fall Playoffs in Schertz. The U11 Texans placed first in the entire region, the highest honor achievable by a D3 team, and the U12 Texans lost a hard-fought championship game to finish second in the region.

It was a wet, cold weekend for the 2022 D3 Playoffs on Saturday, Dec. 3. The U12 Texans began the weekend with a 0-2 loss to the Coastal Bend Express, and then found their stride, winning the next matchups in their bracket 3-0 over the Austin Sting, then beating their rivals the NASA Rockets 2-0 in the semifinals. The final game against the Santa Fe Hurricanes was a hard-fought battle, but the Texans came up just short of their first championship 2-1.

Meanwhile, the U11 Texans came into their games on Saturday ready for action. The Texans bested the Santa Fe Fire 3-0, then the Wells Branch Magic 2-1. The championship game saw a rematch of the CAYSA Champs Meet Championship with the Texans taking on the NASA Crocs. The Texans certainly got their revenge, securing their first Regional Championship 2-1.

This is the first time that Wimberley has sent a team to the STYSA Regional Playoffs and the first time either team secured a second or first place in those tournaments.

“WYSC wants to take the time to stress the importance of the achievements of both of our teams of young athletes,” a statement from the organization read. “They have both accomplished something for our area that has not been accomplished until now. In WYSC’s short 6-year history, Wimberley Youth Soccer has become a force to be reckoned with.”

STYSA is made up of over 30 member associations that account for over 200 individual teams in the South Texas Region.

The U12 Texans Regional Finalist Team members are: Coaches Rene Tenorio and David Sauceda, Watson Arnold, Mekan Charyyev, Charles Duncan, Mikenna Guajardo, Peyton Jennings, Kason Jennings, Everlee Luna, Lucia Mendoza, Lillian Petree, Tripper Sauceda, Bronson Schoolar, Joel Tenorio, and Grayson Windwehen.

The U11 Texans Regional Champions Team members are: Coaches Grayson Moore and Taylor Treadwell, Carter Craft, Hank Cryar, Jackson Cutts, Jase Dyer, Hank Jesse, Jacob Messerli, Noah Ross, Kellan Savage, Barrett Snow, Kevin Tenorio, Kingsley Treadwell and Beckett Wilhelm.
