Wimberley finishes 3rd in District for playoffs

Coming off a shutout 3-0 home win against Canyon Lake, the Texans looked to continue defending home field with two games left in the regular season against the Boerne Greyhounds, the best team in the district with a 12-3 in district record.

The Greyhounds came out hot as they took the lead early in the first with a runner in scoring position followed by a line drive single to take a 1-0 lead. In the second, Greyhounds bats blazed as they started with an infield single followed by two drives into the outfield on back to back at bats to score two runners and take an early 3-0 lead. After the second inning, no offense was produced until the sixth inning when the Greyhounds scored a run after walking a batter that was later scored with a drive to the outfield for a triple. After six innings, the Texans were finally able to end the shutout as they brought in a run after starting with a lead off walk by Brycen Anderson who stole second to get into scoring position. He finally crossed the plate after a ball was sent into the outfield for a single.

The Greyhounds brought in four runs in the seventh, extending their lead to 8-1 and taking home the victory after seven innings.

On Friday, the Texans headed over to Boerne to play the Greyhounds again for the last game of the season. Like in Tuesday’s game, the Greyhounds were the first team on the board in the first with two early runs followed up with three more in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Texans were shut out until the fourth inning when they piled in six runs to take the lead 6-5. That lead did not last long as Boerne tied it up in the bottom of the frame and then retook the lead in the fifth with one run, making it 7-6. The Texans were unable to bring anyone across the plate after the fourth inning to lose both games to the Greyhounds, right before the playoffs.

After finishing with a 8-5 district record, the Wimberley Texans baseball team will move on to the playoffs to take on the La Vernia Bears (20-7). The Bears finished first in their district with a perfect 10-0 record against district teams. The first game of the best of three series will be a home game for the Bears taking place at La Vernia High school on Thursday. After which the next two games will take place at the Wimberley High School ballpark for a double header on Friday.
