Texans fall in a Best of Three series to Gonzales

The Wimberley Texans softball team finished district play with a 5-5 to secure third place in their district, moving them into the playoffs against the Gonzales Apaches who finished 7-3 in district play and claimed the second best record in their district.

The first of three games took place on Friday the 26th in Gonzales, where the Apaches won 11-8 in a very high scoring game. In the first inning, both teams came out swinging as the Texans took a short- lived 4-3 first inning lead until the Apaches scored three runs in the second to make it 6-4. The Texans tacked on another run in the third to cut the lead to one run that they were able to claim in the fourth inning with 3 more runs to take an 8-6 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Gonzales scored five runs to take an 11-8 lead which was enough for the win as they held off the Texans for the rest of the game, taking the first game in the best of three series.

In the second game, the Texans, now playing back at home, were able to tie the series up with a 3-0 shutout win. In a seven inning game, the Texans brought a runner home in the fourth, scoring three runs to take a 3-0 lead. They gave up just six hits in seven innings, throwing a shutout victory to tie the series up at one each going into the final game of the series.

Game three took place on the same day after an incredible pitching performance by Wimberley. Both teams were able to put their bat on the ball and Gonzales was able to pull away with a crushing 9-5 win in Wimberley. Both teams got on the board in the first inning and Wimberley took a 2-1 lead that held up until the fifth inning when Gonzales scored three runs in the fifth and then a commanding five runs in the top of the sixth to lead 9-2 going into the bottom of the sixth. With only two innings left in the season, Wimberley was able to score three runs, giving themselves some life going into the last inning, trailing four runs. Unfortunately the Texans weren’t able to bring anyone home, losing game three of the series 9-5 which brought their amazing season to an end.
