On Friday night The Wimberley Texans (11-0) took on the Orange Grove Bulldogs (7-4) in Schertz Texas in a round two playoff match. The Texans had no problem with the Bulldogs winning 49-7 as they held them scoreless until the 4th quarter giving the Texans their 12th win of the so far perfect season.

“I was pleased that we won and advance to live and play another week, this is fun and I’m proud of our kids” Head Coach Doug Warren stated.

Wimberley came out hot in the first half as they put up all 49 points on the board before the break with #2 Cody Stoever threw for 294 yards on 17 attempts for 12 completions with 3 passing touchdowns and one rushing. The defense showed up as well forcing four turnovers during the game with two interceptions and two fumbles.

At the end of the first quarter it was so far all Wimberley as the score was 21-0 with Wimberley scoring on every drive they had gotten so far.

The Texans picked up right where they left off in the second quarter as they again put the ball in the end zone on every possession they got, scoring on 7 straight drives leading to a dominant first half score of 49-0 and putting this game out early.

In the second half Wimberley slowed down and allowed everyone to get some reps in “We came out early and set the tone and got control of the game, at that point we throttled down and played a lot of kids, I was proud of our effort” Coach Warren stated. Wimberley did not get back in the end zone for the rest of the game but their 7 touchdown first half was more than enough to hold the lead the rest of the way as Orange Grove only put up 7 points in the second half finalizing the score at 49-7.

“You have to take it one by one, we guaranteed ourselves one more week to practice so we better take advantage of that to be the best team we can be and then hopefully extend it another week after that” Coach Warren said.

The Wimberley Texans, now 12-0, will advance to the third round to take on the Ingleside Mustangs (11-1) at 2 p.m. on Friday.
