Sophomore competes at state swim meet

Sophomore Cassidy Davis qualified for the Texas 4A University Interscholastic League’s state championships in both the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Breaststroke held last week in San Antonio.

Sophomore Cassidy Davis qualified for the Texas 4A University Interscholastic League’s state championships in both the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Breaststroke held last week in San Antonio.

Her times from the regional meet placed her just outside the top eight qualifiers but within striking distance going into the preliminary round on Thursday, Feb. 9. After preliminary heats, Davis qualified ninth, heading into the finals on Friday, Feb. 10. Though she swam solid finals heats, she finished in tenth place in both events, scoring 14 team points for the Texans.

Coach Jill Johnson had high praise for Davis’ growth and resolve this season.

“Even as a sophomore, Cassidy came in strong this year,” Johnson said. “She had experience and took on a leadership role for the team and improved week after week. I could not be more proud of her. It was a joy to see her get the opportunity to compete at this level. I’m excited for her and look forward to next year.”

The team sent six to regionals with only Davis advancing to the state meet.
