Gary Bernice Brim
On Sunday March 10, 2024, Gary Bernice Brim passed away peacefully at home in Wimberley, holding his eldest daughter’s hand. Gary was born July 30, 1938, the only child of parents Bernice John Brim and Tiny Ruth DeLoach Brim, in Silsbee, Texas. He and his parents moved to Galveston, TX when Gary was a young child. Gary married his junior high sweetheart, Sarah Alice Nugent in June 1958. They remained married until Sally passed away in 1993.
Sally and Gary went on to have five children – Michael Wayne Brim, Stephen Jon Brim, David Scott Brim, Kristin Kay Stiehl (Warren) and Rebecca Lynn Morgan (Adrian). Kathleen Gamel, a.k.a., Mama Kat, beloved by Gary’s family, has been Gary’s life partner since 2007.
Gary is survived by all of his children, except David, who passed away in 1967, and grandchildren, except Lauren Marie Brim who passed away in 2018. Gary’s grandchildren are Cory Michael Brim (Katie Houston), Noah Scott Brim, Justin Holbrook Stiehl, Joshua David Stiehl, Jacob Daniel Stiehl, Jacy Sarah Stiehl, step grandchildren Samuel Cole Morgan and Emma Louise Morgan, and one great grandson, Aiden Christopher Richardson.
Gary attended Texas A&M University where he was in the Corps, and later graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science Degree/Engineering. Before attending college, Gary worked as a medical illustrator for UTMB in Galveston, TX. After graduating college, Gary began a 23-year career with Humble Oil, that later became Exxon, as a draftsman and was later promoted into a variety of roles. He worked for a short period of time for Allied Asphalt before starting his own commercial construction business named after his daughters, Kay Lynn Construction. In 1981, Gary and his family relocated to Wimberley, TX. Once there, he moved into residential design and building. Gary has built more than 40 homes throughout Wimberley and the Hill Country but was forced to retire due to his declining health.
In high school, Gary was part of the DeMolay organization and found his calling to serve his community. He served on the Wimberley Water Board, was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at the Baptist church and was a member of the Lion’s Club, well known for his pancake and biscuit making prowess at Market Days. Gary enjoyed photography, making furniture and handmade tile and golf. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and especially enjoyed road trips. Gary also loved cooking and had a voracious sweet tooth.
