Teacher found not guilty of offensive contact
David Schachter, of Kyle, was found not guilty of Assault - Offensive Contact, a class C misdemeanor. A second charge of the same offense was dismissed, according to a press release from Schachter’s lawyer Lytza Rojas.

King Feed burns in early morning blaze
Wimberley’s oldest retailer, King Feed and Hardware, caught fire in the early morning hours of Tuesday. A patron of the Brookshire Brothers’ Tobacco Barn and gas station noticed the flames at its location on RR12 and called Wimberley Fire and Rescue. King Feed co-owner Bryan Toifl was on the scene by 5:45 a.m. and was joined shortly thereafter by the business’ other owner, Laurie Ward. Both are previous employees who took over ownership in 2019 from then owner Chris Nichols.

On the Air with Classical Portfolio and Susan Welch
For Susan Welch, the cohost of the Classical Portfolio show that airs every Sunday from 5 to 6 p.m. on KWVH, her love affair with the arts began early in life. Her family visited museums and her mother taught her piano at a young age. She recalls her father, who loved classical music, stretched out on the floor listening to Igor Stravinsky’s ballet, Petrushka, for hours at a time. As a student, she played violin as well as piano, studied modern dance, tap, ballet, as well as literature and other fine arts. She is, she told me in a recent interview, “an extremely rightbrained person.”

League of Women Voters of Hays County hosts annual Wine Tasting/ Silent Auction fundraiser
The nonpartisan League of Women Voters of Hays County is hosting a wine tasting event at the Wimberley Community Center, February 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. Fine wines from Duchman, Salt Lick, Limestone Terrace and Graveyard Wineries will be available for sipping and savoring. Delectable snacks will round out the gustatory experience. In addition to the tasting, there will be a silent auction where guests can bid on a variety of items.

If you suffer from “Cedar Fever” I do not need to tell you that we are currently in the allergic reaction season. The local plant commonly called “Cedar” is in the Juniperus genus. There are over 70 species of Juniperus but the common one found growing locally on limestone is Juniperus ashei.
