Polar Bear Plunge and 5K

For the first time in school history, Wimberley High School will bring home a state championship in Track and Field.

The groundbreaking for a$6.5 million expansion was held for the Wimberley Village Library last week and fundraising continues for an additional renovation project.

The Trinity Edwards Springs Protection Association — a nonprofit to protect the Trinity and Edwards Aquifers — has sent its First Amended Notice of Intent to bring a legal action against Far South Mining, LLC, for a proposed rock quarry and rock crushing operation in Hays County.

For Dwain York, you might say the gravitational pull towards education was strong. It began teaching mathematics and coaching football in the high plains of West Texas and eastern New Mexico, made a short detour through the Permian Basin oilfields, and took root 25 years ago in the Wimberley Valley.

For many listeners of the KWVH radio station show Toddy and the Pooch Unleashed, they are treated to the sweet sounds of old school Rock and Roll from the Rolling Stones to the Stone Roses. But most of the time, they are just playing the recordings of the biggest hits.

Wimberley High School athletic director and head coach Doug Warren sat in the visitors’ locker room of the Alamodome Friday evening pondering the question: “In August, with all of the emotions swirling around about the football program, did you see this moment – preparing to play in the state championship game – as a possibility?” He paused, took in the moment, drew a cleansing breath and smiled that Warren grin.

The aquifer levels across the county and in Wimberley reached historic lows, causing regulatory agencies to start making calls for more drastic conservation measures.

It was a successful outing for the Wimberley Texan tennis team as three different duos were able to bring home medals including two golds.

A proposal pitched to Wimberley ISD could have had a profound impact on public education across the state of Texas, but the district moved away from the idea with a 4-2 vote in August after months of investigation.
