In a battle for position atop district standings, the Wimberley Texans hosted Geronimo Navarro’s Panthers Friday night at Texan Stadium. The game historically determines the district championship and brings together all things good about Friday Night Lights - hard-hitting defenses, explosive plays on offense, and intense struggles to impose a team’s will on its opponent. This game was no exception.
It isn’t uncommon for one team to dominate the other in a high school football game, but what the Code Red defense did to the Manor New Tech Titans last week rises to an entirely different level. Not only did Wimberley shut out Manor in the 63-0 victory, the Titans never earned a first down.
The reigning UIL 4A Team Tennis State Champions are gearing up for another run as they ran away with the Area title in a 10-0 finish against Needville High School.
Wimberley and Boerne were tied in the district standings. At least they were before Friday’s game.
Another chapter of the growing Fredericksburg- Wimberley rivalry was written last Tuesday night as the Billies and the Texans battled for a spot in the playoffs.
It was an important home game for the Wimberley Texans regardless of the record of the Jarrell Cougars.
The road to the playoffs continued for the Wimberley Texans volleyball team as the navy blue and red looked rounded out the first part of the district schedule with road games to Navarro and Canyon Lake.
A Texan hole in one
There might not be anything more satisfying in high school football than spoiling an opponent’s homecoming game. Given Wimberley’s well-earned reputation as a good football program, most teams don’t give the Texans the chance to take over homecoming, but the Lampasas Badgers felt they were up for the challenge.
It was a tough outing for the Wimberley Texans volleyball team as they made the trip to Boerne to battle the Greyhounds.
