Connect with Hill Country sensibilities at the 35th Annual Hill Country Home Tour. Hosted by the Wimberley Community Civic Club, this mainstay of regional culture showcases homes that excel at putting art, light, the outside world, color and texture at center stage.

The tour, which runs Friday Nov. 11 and Saturday Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., features five outstanding homes christened the “South House,” “Mount View Modern,” “Red Hawk Bluff,” “Mid-Century Texas,” and an historic home, the “Winters- Wimberley House.”

Called the “South House,” this home is a testament to its builders’ aesthetics and passions. Constructed over time by the owners themselves, it is a fully distinctive, one-of-a-kind artistic dwelling.

Named “Mount View Modern,” this home on the hill above Lone Man Creek was designed to be one room deep with a hall connecting its wings so that every room could take advantage of the amazing views.

A beautiful example of Hill Country Modern architecture can be seen in the home called “Red Hawk Bluff.” It is environmentally cooperative, with rainwater collection, geothermal cooling units, insulated glass windows, native plantings, and an excavated creek bed to divert excess rainwater.

Tucked away in Woodcreek is the home christened “Mid-Century Texas.” Delightful for its unusual combinations of colors, prints and textures, it excels at being a cozy, personal space. Designed by Austin architect and previous owner, Mark Evans, its site was exploited to maximize its expansive backyard views.

Wimberley’s oldest documented stone house (circa 1856), the “Winters- Wimberley House” rounds out the tour by providing an excellent example of an historic, substantial, limestone dwelling that was built using native materials.

“There’s something for everyone to love about this tour,” says Civic Club tour organizer, Alicia Dedman. “Our team selected homes that illustrate how our neighbors approached the specifics of their environment and how they integrated their artistic sensibilities into the space.”

Purchase tickets for the Home Tour online at WimberleyCCC.org. Pick up for the tickets, admission brochure, and wristbands are at the Wimberley Visitor Center on Nov. 4, 5, and Nov. 9 through 12.

The Home Tour kicks off with a high-profile event, Thursday Nov. 3, from 5:30 – 8:30 pm, at the home of Jerry and Tricia Linklater Fields. The cocktail fundraiser features musical performers, Pear Duo, the dynamic and entertaining husband and wife team of Julie Ragins and Curtis Brengle. Guests may savor hors’ d’oeuvres from RR12 Supper Club of Wimberley and The Videre, as well as an open bar while they tour the Fields’ home and peruse the online auction items.

The crown of the auction is a five-day yacht excursion for eight in Mexico. The yacht is a privately-owned 86 ft. Hatteras Sports Fisherman vessel with four staterooms, four bathrooms, and an expansive solon and galley area. It is fully staffed and equipped with all necessary fishing tackle. The trip includes two coach class tickets to and from a Texas airport, all food and drink, and transportation from the airport to the yacht. Christened the Londolozi, the yacht is available for Thanksgiving week in Cabo and any other mutually agreed-upon time. Bidders can vie directly online for the top bid from Nov. 3 to Nov. 15 at https://go.rallyup.com/ ht2022 or through the Civic Club website. Kick-Off party tickets are $150 and include a $25 Home Tour ticket and are available now at Wimberley-CCC.org.

A staple of Civic Club fundraising, the Home Tour, its Kick-Off Party and Auction, contribute one-third of the group’s annual donations to area non-profits and scholarships.
