The 2022 Wimberley Pride March is back in full force to help celebrate and bring together people in support of the LBGTQ community.
Due to the recent surge of hateful speeches and actions, this year’s theme will be “Onward not Backwards”.
As for the march itself, Kate Crosthwaite, one the organizers for the 2022 Wimberley Pride March, this is about honoring the past while also moving forward in the ongoing fight for LBGTQ rights.
“Our Pride March is meant to honor those who have rallied before us,” Crosthwaite said. “There has been a lot of effort and cause to bring to light the need for legal and equal rights for people apart of the LBGTQ+ spectrum. One of the ways to do that is to march in solidarity and bring attention to those who are not participating that it is important to provide an opportunity for our community to be together for people that are LBGTQ+ or as our allies. It also provides a safe way for our community to declare that Wimberley is a safe place to be for LBGTQ+ folks.”
This year’s march will start at the Wimberley Community Center on September 17 at 5 p.m. and continue towards the Wimberley Square before turning on Old Kyle Road and ending at the entrance of Blue Hole Regional Park.
The march will include speeches from Anna Nyugen, President of PFlag Austin, and Ricardo Martinez, CEO of Equality Texas, along with live music from Brand New Key.
