The filing period has passed for the November 8 General Election solidifying the field of candidates for the Wimberley ISD Board of Trustees and Woodcreek City Council elections.
There will be one new face on the Wimberley ISD Board of Trustees as long-time Trustee Joe Malone did not file for re-election for Place 5.
“Serving on the Wimberley ISD Board of Trustees has been one of the most rewarding endeavors of my life, but due to family and work commitments I have made the difficult decision not to run,” Malone said. “With that said, I’m excited about the current state of the district including the hiring of our new superintendent and look forward to staying engaged with the district in various other ways.”
Two candidates will face off for Malone’s seat. Chadwich R “Chad” Canine and Lindsey M Deringer both filed. Trustee Will Conley did not draw a challenger for Wimberley ISD Board of Trustee, Place 4.
For the Woodcreek City Council, six candidates have filed for three open places. Long-time Councilmember Aurora LeBrun elected not to file for re-election.
“I made that decision many months ago,” LeBrun said. “I have been in office since 2016, and it is time for me to let other people join the council. Diversity – change is a good thing. I believe in term limits. Changing the people who are managing your city is good, because we get new ideas and new visions. So I am ready to step away and let somebody else take that place.”
Chrys Grummert, who was appointed to council to fill the unexpired term left vacant when Jeff Rasco was elevated from his place on council to mayor, has filed for election. Another position up for election was left vacant by Judy Brizendine’s resignation. Joe Kotarba, who was appointed from his seat as chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission to the city council to fill Brizendine’s seat, filed as well as former council members Robert “Bob” Hambrick and Vicki Alvord. New to the ballot are Linnea Bailey and John Epley. Bailey currently serves as the chair of the city’s Platinum Roads Panel while Epley is a former chair of a previous roads advisory work group as well as other involvement in the city.
In Woodcreek, voters will be allowed to vote for any three of the six candidates and the three candidates with the most votes will fill the three open positions.
Election day is November 8, 2022 with locations at Cypress Creek Church, Scudder Primary, VFW Post 6441 and the Wimberley Community Center. Early voting begins on October 24 at Scudder and the Community Center.
