Keep Wimberley Beautiful has donated $5,000 dollars to the Wimberley Village Library towards their expansion project.
For Carol Scheel, president of KWB, the library has become an important resource for the community.
“At one of our board meetings, one of our members brought up the idea of making a donation to the library,” Scheel said. “$5000 was mentioned and the board approved. Part of the reason we wanted to do that was to show our support for the library, which can benefit anybody from students, adults, seniors to even little children.”
The funds that are being donated come from the Village Store, which helps several nonprofits in Wimberley, including Keep Wimberley Beautiful, raise money through volunteer hours.
“Our funds are raised through volunteer work at the Village Store,” Scheel said. “We have members who volunteer there, and we are among the seven nonprofits who benefit from the Village Store. But we saved up a reserve and wanted to show our appreciation and support the Wimberley Village Library.”
For Dell Hood, president of the Wimberley Village Library Board of Directors, the donation was a wonderful idea seeing how KWB does their best to help other establishments in Wimberley by beautifying the community.
“We were delighted,” Hood said. “My wife and I have been very active with Keep Wimberley Beautiful in the past, and we know they do such great work around town in making Wimberley such a beautiful community. They have people who are willing to do volunteer work to beautify local establishments so it’s a great idea.”
The money being donated to the Wimberley Village Library will go towards the library’s landscaping project once the construction of the expansion is completed.
“We told KWB when they came to the library to do the presentation that the money will go towards our landscaping,” Hood said. “As you are aware, we are planning this very large addition to our building, which is going to take a lot of work to get the new site looking good again. This will go for such things as buying native plants. We will probably end up hiring some labor to do all the work, but it will be used for our landscaping needs.”
With the community of Wimberley seemingly getting bigger every year, the new expansion of the library hopes to fill the need for everyone in the valley across all ages.
“Wimberley is blessed that it has a library staff who are brilliant when coming up with programs and services that help every audience group,” Hood said. “We have just been growing by double digit percentages for the last five year and the demand of what we can do. This expansion is crucial to keep the library in step with the growth of the Wimberley Community. We will have doubled the space for our children’s programs, a very nice space dedicated to teens and young adults, and we will be adding a public meeting room that can seat up to 100 people which will be available to any of the local groups in Wimberley as a place to meet. We look at this as making sure that the Wimberley Village Library is keeping up with the growth that the Wimberley Valley is experiencing.”
