As part of the Labor Day holiday weekend, Wimberley Market Day will be on Saturday, September 3. The Wimberley Lions Club, MD vendors, and volunteers from the community will be hard at work to make this outdoor marketplace the festive experience that shoppers and visitors have come to expect. One such community volunteer, Ginger Brown, said, “For WAG, I volunteer at a concession stand, and have enjoyed many musicians playing at Market Day.” However in September, she will venture out from the concession stand to play acoustic guitar on the Pavilion Stage with her father, Roland Brown.
The daughter and dad are two-thirds of their band, River Mountain Green, which also includes Marty Sosby. The trio (or duo at Market Day) perform covers from a variety of genres including country, rock, and pop. Ginger said, “I’ve been wanting to play at Market Day for several years, so I am very excited to be on the main stage!”
River Mountain Green can be seen and heard every Monday evening at Savage’s Hill Country Bar at the “junction” on the way to San Marcos. Roland plays an occasional Wednesday evening at Jobell CafĂ© and Bistro, off RR 12 in Wimberley. Follow the band on Instagram @River-MountainGreen.
Live music at Lions Field starts at 11:00 a.m. until about 1:00 p.m. Besides the Browns headlining the Pavilion, Phoenix Jordan plays at the Shady Grove, and Alias Newman plays on the Hilltop.
Wimberley Market Day is held on the First Saturday of each month, rain or shine. September’s shopping hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lions Field is located off FM 2325, about a mile from the Wimberley Square. The $5.00 donation accepted at the Lions Club’s parking lots helps to fund the various grants and scholarships distributed by the Wimberley Lions Club.
