Wimberley City Administrator Mike Boese is retiring effective at the end of September.

Boese informed the Wimberley City Council at last week’s regular meeting that he would be retiring.

“The city is in a really good place and there are a couple of personal things I really want to focus on,” Boese said. “It seemed like the right time. I feel like we are wrapping up most of our major projects, and it just felt like the right time.”

Boese was also complementary of the community, local volunteers and the leadership of the city stating his time in Wimberley has been “nothing but outstanding.”

Boese was hired on March 29, 2021. In his time as city administrator for Wimberley he has overseen the completion of the sewer system and the majority of the process of businesses and residents hooking up to the sewer system. He also helped revamp the city’s emergency management plan and helped the city find financing that would eventually result in the purchase of land and construction of a parking lot, restroom and visitor’s kiosk near the Wimberley Square.

“We are very sad to see him go,” Wimberley Mayor Gina Fulkerson said. “It is a loss for sure. We tried to talk him out of it, but ultimately we understand that he is doing what he needs to for himself and his family.”

Having only hired Boese last year, the majority of the city council has gone through the process of hiring a city administrator.

“We are in such a different situation than when we interviewed last time as far as having some big projects handled, mainly the sewer, and financially we can see our picture better now,” Fulkerson said. “…There are some great things going on in the city, and I think we will attract some great candidates.” The city has already put the job posting online and is receiving candidates. They are hoping to begin the interviewing process for the job by the end of the month with the goal of having a person hired at or near the time that Boese is scheduled to leave the city.

“This is my second retirement,” Boese said. “I want to see where God is leading me, but I don’t have any plans settled yet.”
