For the first time since before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wimberley Valley Art League hosted a Juried Art Show with guests available to meet and greet in person.
For Jan Fitzhugh, owner of Art on 12, it was exciting to see everyone in one space again.
“It is very exciting,” Fitzhugh said. “It’s been a very long time since we have all been able to come together. It’s really exciting for us to be back together, face-to-face, and being face-to-face with the art pieces.”
The celebration was not only about showcasing the artists’ talents, but also celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Art Gallery in the Community Center.
“We are celebrating our 15th anniversary of the gallery,” Fitzhugh said. “This gallery space at the community center came about 15 years ago, and it is where the Art League showcases their work. So we were celebrating 15 years of this space.”
As part of the festivities, the Art League created art squares that represented some of the most famous paintings that hung from a tree which celebrated the 15th anniversary. The squares were then sold off in a silent auction with the proceeds going to Mercy Chefs.
“We created the little art pieces to go to the tree along with a silent auction to bid on said art pieces,” Fitzhugh said. “We raised around $400 dollars that will go to Mercy’s Chefs, which is organized by Jay Bachman (of the Wimberley Cafe) and goes all over the world during natural disasters to provide food to those in need.”
