The 76th Wimberley VFW Rodeo was a massive success taking place over three days as Wimberley residents and guests saw some of the best cowboys and cowgirls show off their best wrangling skills.
“It went very well,” Bob Flocke said. “It was one of the best rodeos we have put on ever. We completely sold out on Saturday and Sunday night where we had standing room only. We ended up having to turn people away at the gate.”
The VFW Rodeo was also able to honor late Post Commander John Thompson, who passed away in April, as the press box above the arena will now be known as the John Thompson Tower.
“It was really important because John, who was a great commander, died suddenly in April and we thought it was right to memorialize him,” Flocke said. “We did all three nights and his widow Diane was also at the Rodeo all three nights, so we were able to recognize her. It was important to us even though we are reeling from his death.”
Fans of the rodeo saw three days of nonstop action from saddle bronc riding and bareback riding to tie down roping and bull riding, just to name a few.
