Roughhouse Brewing and Middleton Brewing teamed up together once again to host their third annual Oakloop Block party.
With live music, a local folks market and a classic car cruise in to boot, many guests were able to attend despite the heat.
“It’s been so far so good,” Victoria Van de Ryt, event manager of Roughhouse Brewery said. “We have always had it in the summer so it’s a little tricky trying to convince people to come out in the heat, but we worked really closely with Middleton Brewery this year to plan a full day of events to bring people out and keep people here.”
While it is easy to assume there is a rivalry between the two brewers, it is actually the opposite as both companies look to support each other.
“Many people don’t realize how awesome it is to have three breweries in town let alone having two of them on the same block which is pretty rare,” Van de Ryt said. “But many people don’t realize how close we are in the brewing industry. Many people assume there is a rivalry just because we all brew beer and we are trying to sell to the same clientele. But it’s actually a very close knit community, and we are all very supportive of each other. So it’s very fun to have the same brewery on the same block.”
Both companies worked together on the block party including working on this year’s theme of fly-fishing.
“It helps that we are friends first and businesses on the same block second,” Van de Ryt said. “We get together and pick a new theme every year with this year being a fly-fishing theme. Once we decide on that the brewers decide on beer names and we decide the graphics. We then look to see what the customers are going to like.” For more information about other get togethers put on by both Roughouse and Middleton brewers, follow their websites www.roughhousebrewing.com and www.middletonbrewingtx.com.
