Tammy Cook has joined the City of Wimberley as City Secretary, effective this week. She officially took the oath of office at last week’s council meeting.
Cook brings about a dozen years of experience in city government to the role including three years as interim City Clerk for the city of San Marcos, and another eight years there as Deputy City Clerk. Prior to that time, she served as Deputy City Secretary in Brenham.
“Tammy is a great fit with our city,” said Wimberley Mayor Gina Fulkerson. “She is proud of her ‘small-town’ background and knows the Texas Hill Country well and is exceptionally well qualified. We are happy to welcome her to City Hall.”
A graduate of Texas A&M University, Cook earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management with a minor in Business. As Clerk in San Marcos, she supervised a staff of five; maintained and updated municipal codes; drafted ordinances, resolutions and proclamations; drafted and posted agendas; maintained municipal records; maintained the city election process and other related activities. She will have similar duties in Wimberley, according to City Administrator Mike Boese.
In other action from the May 19 meeting, Fulkerson, Council Place 2 Teresa Shell and Council Place 4 Jim Chiles were sworn in for their second terms. All three of those officeholders were unopposed for both of their terms. Council also appointed Council Place 1 Rebecca Minnick as Mayor Pro Tem. Mayor Pro Tem is selected by council each year at the same time that the year’s newly elected council members are sworn in.
