Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance (WVACA) presented its first-ever Robert Moreman Memorial Scholarships to four 2022 graduating seniors at the Wimberley High School Awards Ceremony on May 11. WVACA president Deirdre Taylor and scholarship committee chair Carl Rabenalt joined Robert Moreman’s wife Cathy Moreman and daughter Dr. Sara Moreman to present the $6,000 one-time awards. The winners included: artist and actor Abigail Burke; actor Jack Garrett; chef and metal fabricator Guy Massey; musician and composer Simon Ramirez. Congratulations to these inspiring young people, who have all been accepted to top universities in their fields starting this fall.
WVACA created the Robert Moreman Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the memory of Robert Moreman, an active participant in the organization, which was founded in 2013 by Cathy Moreman when she was director of the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce. The scholarship is intended for graduating seniors from Wimberley high schools (WHS and KAPS), who demonstrate unusual accomplishment and professional commitment in one of WVACA’s four creative pillars: performing, visual, literary and culinary arts, or – in recognition of Robert’s profession – crafters and makers in the building and related trades.
This will be an annual scholarship. Donations are being accepted now for 2023 scholarships. To learn more about the scholarship and application criteria, or to donate to the fund, please visit:
