Despite trailing the Davenport Wolves 8-5 to start the bottom of the fifth inning, the Wimberley baseball team was unfazed by the score as the Texans responded by scoring 13 unanswered runs to runrule Davenport in a 18-8 win.

With the Game 1 victory and a 5-2 Game 2 road victory over the Wolves on Friday, the two wins set up a district championship clash against the Boerne Greyhounds.

In Game 1, Davenport struck the first blow in the first inning with a one-out, two-run home run as the Wolves took a 2-0 lead.

But the lead didn’t last long for the Wolves.

After a leadoff single by Hagen Donley, Ethan Lancaster brought him home with a one out double to cut the lead down to 2-1.

Kyler Lai then hit another RBI double for the Texans to score Lancaster and tie the game up at 2-2.

After a base hit and a walk loading the bases, Ruger Riojas hit a two-run RBI single to take the lead for Wimberley at 4-2.

A sac fly by Chase Carson added another run as Wimberley ended the first up on top at 5-2.

In the second inning, Davenport responded by loading the bases with one out.

Despite walking in one run, the Texans got out of the jam by turning a double play to keep the score at 5-3.

A scoreless 1.5 innings later, Davenport added another score with a one out RBI double to trim the lead down 5-4.

After a scoreless fourth inning for the Texans, Davenport looked to do damage by loading the bases after three straight walks.

A Texan error allowed the Wolves to tie the game up before a one out RBI single scored two more runs for Davenport to make it 7-5.

The Wolves added one more with a RBI single as Wimberley got out of the jam once again trailing 8-5.

After the Texans got on base with a hit batter and a walk, Riojas scored two runs for Wimberley with a one out RBI triple to make it 8-7.

A wild pitch allowed Riojas to score and tie the game up at 8-8.

But the Texans weren’t done yet as Wimberley loaded the bases with only one out.

Josh Prado cleared the bases for the Texans with a one-out, RBI double to take back the lead at 11-8.

Prado then scored on a dropped third strike as Wimberley extended the lead at 12-8 heading into the sixth inning.

Davenport was unable to score in the top of the sixth inning as the Texans looked to add more runs.

Once again loading the bases, Prado hit another RBI double to score two more runs as Wimberley went up 14-8.

Lancaster then hit another RBI double for the Texans to add two more runs for Wimberley and make the score 16-8.

Another RBI double for the Texans, this time by Dylan Kincaid, put another run up for Wimberley as Davenport was pushed to the brinked.

Lai scored the final run of the game on a passed ball to put Wimberley on top at 18-8.

Riojas led the team in offense going a perfect 3-3 at the plate with four RBIs.

Prado led the team in RBIs going 2-5 at the plate while scoring five Texan runners.

Lancaster was third going 2-5 with three RBIs.

In Game 2 against Davenport, the Texans fought back from a 2-1 deficit to score four unanswered runs in a 5-2 for the Texans.

In the final district series of the season, the Texans will square off with the Boerne Greyhounds in a game with major playoff implications.

A two game sweep of the Greyhounds will see Wimberley claim the district title while splitting the series will cause a three-way with both Boerne, Wimberley and Canyon Lake barring a Hawks loss to Davenport.

A two game sweep by Boerne will cause Wimberley to fall down to third place with Canyon Lake earning second place due to splitting their series with Boerne.

But if Boerne sweeps Wimberley and Canyon Lake drops one game against Davenport, it will force a tiebreaker game against the Hawks and the Texans with a Davenport sweep and a Boerne sweep will give Wimberley second place.

Due to recent weather conditions, Game 1 has been moved to Tuesday night at Wimberley while Game 2 Friday night will be played at Boerne.
