Early voting for school bond underway

Early voting is underway for the Wimberley Independent School District’s proposed $135M Bond Election. In February, the WISD board called for the bond based on the recommendation of the Facility Needs Task Force for capital improvements and additions impacting WISD’s campuses and other district facilities. It includes funding for new school facilities, safety upgrades and expanded classroom space to accommodate the district’s growing student population.

It is the first WISD bond election since voters approved the 2018 Bond that funded the construction of Blue Hole Primary School and other district improvements.

Voters will consider four propositions, separated in accordance with state law.

Prop A - General Growth, Safety and Rehabilitation of Facilities - $109.99 Million Prop B - Instructional Technology - $6.05 Million Prop C - Texan Stadium Improvements $5.73 Million Prop D - Shaded Multipurpose Activity Center - $13.23 Million The projected tax impact of the passage of all four propositions is estimated to result in a three-cent tax rate increase for WISD taxpayers. For citizens who have applied for and Compared to nine other ISDs in the region, the proposal, if adopted, would still keep the estimated tax rate for the district the lowest in the region except for Blanco. Navarro, Hays CISD, Dripping Springs, Comal, Lake Travis, New Braunfels and San Marcos have rates that are larger.

Polls opened for early received the Over-65 Homestead Exemption, school district taxes are frozen and will not increase voting on April 22, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 25, and on April 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Early voting will reopen April 28 and 29, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Election Day is May 3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voting takes place in the Blanco Room of the Wimberley Community Center and at Texan from the bond.

The tax impact of the proposed bond is projected to be: Academy at the Scudder campus.

Any registered voter who resides within the WISD attendance boundary is eligible to vote in the bond election. The deadline to register to vote was April 3.
