The Texans dropped their final two games of the regular season, losing to the Navarro Panthers 19-9 before losing to Davenport 16-13.
Despite the two losses, the Texans have qualified for the postseason.
On Tuesday, Wimberley made the trip to Navarro in a showdown with the Panthers.
The Texans found themselves down in a massive deficit, trailing the Panthers 10-0 after three innings. Despite trailing by a massive margin, the Texans attempted their comeback.
In the bottom of the top of the fourth inning, Wimberley scored on a Navarro fielding error for their first run of the game. In the next atbat, Grace Strobel hit an RBI double, cutting the Panther lead down to 10-2.
The next inning, Emorie Gahan scored another run by hitting another RBI double. Bailey Wright followed Strobel with an RBI single, making it a 10-4 game. In the same atbat, Strobel struck again with another RBI double, scoring two runs and cutting the deficit down to 10-6.
In the top of the sixth inning, Gahan hit an RBI single to once again cut the Panther lead. On the next atbat, Wright hit an RBI double. Later Wright scored on a wild pitch as the Texans made it a one-run game at 10-9.
Unfortunately for the Texans, it marked the last time Wimberley threatened to take the lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Navarro scored 10 runs to win the game via the mercy rule at 19-9.
Looking to bounce back, the Texans closed out the season on the road against the Davenport Wolves.
Wimberley struck first against Wolves in the top of the first. Facing runners on second and third, Ella Patek hit a single RBI single to score the first run of the game. However, the Wolves committed a throwing error, allowing Wright to score from second and put the Texans up 2-0 while Patek advanced to third.
Reagan Kenley scored Patek from third, hitting a sacrifice fly and extending the lead to 3-0.
The Wolves took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, Davenport hit a grand slam, scoring all four runners, leading 4-3. Davenport later added three more runs in the first and entered the second inning up 7-3.
Unfazed by the score, the Texans answered back in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, Patek crushed a grand slam of her own, tying the game back up at 7-7.
In the third inning, Wimberley took the lead back as Leanna Therrien hit an RBI single, putting the Texans up 8-7.
The Wolves answered back in the same inning, hitting a two-run home run to go back up 9-8. Later in the same at-bat, Davenport scored again on a sacrifice fly, going up 10-8.
Once again, the Texans answered back. Emma Lewis connected with an RBI double in the top of the fourth inning, making it a one score game at 10-9.
The bottom of the fifth inning saw Davenport once again added on to their lead. After scoring on another sacrifice fly, the Wolves scored again on a wild pitch, making it a 12-9 game.
Despite Davenport adding on to their lead once again, Wimberley was determined to fight back. With a runner on first, Wright smashed a two-run home run over the fence in center field, cutting the lead down to 12-11. Later in the at-bat, the Texans took the lead as Leonard crushed a two-run home run of her own to put Wimberley up 1312.
The exciting game was sent into extra innings as Davenport tied it up in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly at 13-13.
Going into the eighth inning, the Wolves ended the Texans comeback. With runners on second and third with one out, Davenport hit a walk-off three-run home run to beat Wimberley 16-13 in a thrilling contest.
Despite the two losses, Wimberley is still heading to the postseason as the Texans will look to take the Bi-District crown against the Manor New Tech Titans in a three-game series. Game 1 will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Wimberley. Game 2 will start at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Manor New Tech. Game 3 if needed will be determined at a later date.
