26th Annual Spring Garden Tour set for Saturday, May 10

26th Annual Spring Garden Tour set for Saturday, May 10

Go behind the scenes at two local farms – one, an educational enterprise, and the other, a highly productive organic market garden and orchard. Then tour two family properties on the water’s edge whose gardens have been patiently restored after the 2015 Memorial Day Flood. And finally, see how a hidden homestead’s ecosystem flourishes to stun and provide edibles with minimal waste.

It’s all a part of this year’s Annual Spring Garden Tour. Hosted by the Wimberley Garden Club, the hardiness and ingenuity of the diverse properties are sure to inspire beginners and seasoned gardeners.

The tour also includes a plant sale with great deals on the plants most likely to thrive and survive in the challenging Hill Country environment. Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists and Garden Club members will be on hand to help buyers make the best choices for their situation.

While touring the gardens, visitors can enjoy the work of Wimberley Valley Art League artists: Annette Kennedy, floral prints, coasters, paintings; Gerald Kuten, glassworks; Tim Leibrock, plein air paintings; Diane Lunow, gourd art; Lisa Motley, drawings, prints and paintings; Jeff Peterson, paintings, plein air paintings; JJ Priour, sculpture; Monica Rasco, author of the book “Goodnight Wimberley”; Jim Street, plein air paintings; and Mary and Tom Wiley, jewelry.

Live music in the gardens will be performed by Joe Dalton, Tom Dawson, Bill Perkins and Travis Wheeler.

The self-guided tour is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tickets are $20 per person and are available online in advance at wimberleygardenclub. org or the day of the tour beginning at 7:30 a.m.at the Wimberley Visitor Center, 14100 RR12.

The tour goes on rain or shine. Organizers suggest visitors come with comfortable walking shoes, a hat and water. Not all areas of all gardens are ADA compliant.

Community supporters include Cormier Construction and Roofing, Wimberley Gardens, State Farm, Cypress Creek Animal Hospital, and Square Inn.
