The month of April promises to offer a whirlwind of activities and here’s one more. The Seventh Annual Gumbo Fest competition begins at noon where aficionados vote with their taste buds to bestow a $500 Best Gumbo prize on a lucky chef.
The event takes place on the lawn of The Lodge at Cypress Falls, 50 Marina Circle, west of Wimberley in Woodcreek, overlooking the Cypress Falls swimming hole. There’s an Easter egg hunt for kids, Zydeco music with Jeanne-Pierre and the Zydeco Angels for music lovers, and a silent auction for shoppers.
Proceeds benefit My Neighbor’s Keeper, a local, non-profit organization established to provide short-term, im-mediate financial assistance to citizens of the Wimberley Valley area who have been victimized by natural disasters.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for kids over 12. Registration and advance tickets are available at Wimberleygumbofest. com.
